What can this blog do? #HAWMC Day 5

Today’s Prompts:

  • “If I could do anything as a Health Activist…” Think big today! Money/ time/ physical limitations are no longer an issue. What is your biggest goal that is now possible?

Ha! Money and time no longer an issue! Let’s find a cure ASAP!  That would be my entire list. If only a blog could do that. But there are things I can do.

Realistically, with my blog I want to help us Lupie’s in our day to day lives. Showing support, giving information and providing resources to improve our lives.  However, that is not all.  I just want to get information out to everyone, not just people with lupus.

Most people don’t know much, if anything, about lupus. In a nationwide poll of 1,000 adults conducted by the LFA, 22% said that they had never even heard of lupus! That is just crazyness to me!  So many people are affected! The LFA estimates that 1.5 million Americans, and at least five million people worldwide have a form of lupus. 10-15 percent of people with lupus will die prematurely due to complications from this disease. We need funding for research now.

It is so important to get extra funding for research and development of new treatments. We need to to show it’s affect on the lives of the sufferers and our families.  Sometimes people need a face and a name, so it isn’t just some unknown disease.  Sometimes they need a human being’s compelling story.  Sometimes they need to see suffering.  But wouldn’t it be great if we could change those stories by finding a cure. By creating awareness and showing the desperate need for research and new treatments we can hopefully one day, do just that.

Check out this great infographic and please share it on Pinterest and Facebook!

  1. I was very happy to see that you posted the infographic that we created last year in honor of Lupus Awareness Month. Well, I was wondering if you have gotten a chance to check out our blog recently? We actually created a brand new infographic for Lupus Awareness Month 2013! It has a similar feel, but we have switched up the focus and the information that is covered in it. For one thing, I was really interested in including something about Put on Purple day it actually made a really great header for the new infographic.

Tell me what you think!
