So, most everyone who knows me, knows I have been trying my best to eat Paleo. I got lucky with my first Paleo Diet read! Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole-Foods Lifestyle by Diane Sanfilippo is a great book for veterans of the Paleo Diet and beginners alike!
I came across Diane’s website, balancedbites.com, and started listening to her podcast early on in September. I listen to a lot of podcasts due to my long commute and really enjoy the Balanced Bites Podcast (which also includes Liz Wolfe, who I also lurv!!). I ordered her book Practical Paleo on Amazon and was so excited when I received it… for good reason! It is full of great information, recipes and is just a great all around introduction to the Paleo Diet.
The first section of the book explains the Paleo way of eating, basically the HOW. It does include some science, but Diane explains everything so well it is easy to understand. This gives you a good understanding as to WHY you should try the Paleo Diet.
This book gives specific diet suggestions for autoimmune conditions (including Lupus), thyroid health, cancer recovery, fat loss & athletic performance, but also for just overall health. I will definitely keep you all updated to see how my Lupus symptoms respond over the next few months of Paleo living.
The book also includes great meal suggestions, info on food prep and cooking, tear out guides and shopping lists!
My favorite thing about this book is how it is chock-full of great recipes! Austin and I have loved making the Bacon-Wrapped Smoky Chicken Thighs, Pumpkin-Pie Custard and Mashed Faux-tatoes. These were all super easy to prepare and really yummy! Tomorrow, I am going to try the Carrot Pumpkin Spice Muffins, which sound great for a fall Saturday morning! I also have sticky notes on a bunch of other recipes to try next.
